Martyn Evans is Estate Development Director at Dartington Hall, a 1200-acre Medieval estate in Devon countryside that was re-invented as an experiment in rural industry, farming, community, education, arts and culture in the 1920s and is currently undergoing a £50m regeneration programme. The Trust employs 380 people, is home to 175 small businesses and a destination for the 250,000 visitors who visit its gardens, hotel, restaurants, culture and education programmes every year. He was until 2016 Creative Director at U+I, having held that role on Cathedral’s Board since 2011. Martyn’s association with Cathedral goes back to the late 1990s during his time as a consultant in the property, regeneration and urban design sectors when he also worked for CABE, The Design Council and Design for London with a particular focus on regeneration through creative industry and cultural engagement. He was recently appointed to Chair the board of Croydon Council's housing development company, Brick by Brick, and is a Non-Exec Director of the online community engagement platform, Commonplace. He’s Deputy Chair of the London Festival of Architecture and regularly sits on architecture prize juries including the AJ's Small Projects, The Architect of the Year, the NLA and the Estates Gazette Awards. He writes a regular column in BDOnline and contributes to the Estates Gazette. Martyn is Founder and Patron of YADA, the Young Architects and Developers Alliance - a networking organisation that fuels partnership and understanding between young architects and developers.
